Amaretto Sour Mocktail: Almond and Lemon
An amaretto sour mocktail combines an almond base with lemon.
An amaretto sour mocktail combines an almond base with lemon. This recipe uses non-alcoholic almond syrup rather than regular amaretto liqueur. Water dilutes the concentrated syrup to drinking strength.
The quantities make one serving. Measure the ingredients before mixing and chill any mixer. Syrups, juices and bottled alternatives vary in sweetness and acidity, so taste the base before topping up.
Ingredients for one serving
- 20 ml non-alcoholic almond syrup
- 25 ml lemon juice
- 60 ml cold water
- 20 ml orange juice
- Ice
Method
- Add all liquid ingredients to a shaker with ice.
- Shake firmly.
- Strain into a short glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with orange peel.
Getting the balance right
Almond syrup is intensely flavoured and sweet. With a strong product, start with 15 ml and increase water accordingly. Orange rounds out lemon without adding a second syrup. Check ingredients for almond or nut allergies.
Variation and substitutions
With a non-alcoholic amaretto alternative, use 50 ml base and reduce water to 30 ml. Initially omit syrup and rebalance sweetness.
Preparing several servings
Measure juice, purée and syrup shortly before serving. Add ice and carbonated ingredients when you make the drink. To serve a group, multiply the quantities, but adjust one glass first before mixing the whole pitcher.
Common question
Does it need egg white?
No. This recipe works without egg or a promised foam layer. The almond, acidity and dilution balance matters most.
