Long Island Iced Tea Mocktail: Tea, Citrus and Cola

A Long Island Iced Tea mocktail is a separate tea-and-citrus mixture finished with cola.

Serving inspiration from the ProstZero drink collection: spiced tea refresher

A Long Island Iced Tea mocktail is a separate tea-and-citrus mixture finished with cola. It does not attempt to imitate each spirit individually. Black tea adds structure while lemon and a little orange keep it fresh.

The quantities make one serving. Measure the ingredients before mixing and chill any mixer. Syrups, juices and bottled alternatives vary in sweetness and acidity, so taste the base before topping up.

Ingredients for one serving

  • 80 ml cold black tea
  • 20 ml lemon juice
  • 20 ml orange juice
  • 10 ml simple syrup
  • 60 ml cola
  • Ice

Method

  1. Shake tea, juices and syrup briefly with ice.
  2. Strain into a tall glass over fresh ice.
  3. Pour in cola slowly.
  4. Stir gently and garnish with lemon.

Getting the balance right

Cola already supplies sweetness and its own spice profile. Start with 5 ml syrup for a very sweet cola. The tea should be strong without harsh bitterness. Unlike the familiar alcoholic original, this interpretation actually uses tea as a main ingredient.

Variation and substitutions

Replace 30 ml cola with soda for less sweetness. Decaffeinated tea and an appropriately chosen cola change caffeine content; check both products rather than the tea alone.

Preparing several servings

Measure juice, purée and syrup shortly before serving. Add ice and carbonated ingredients when you make the drink. To serve a group, multiply the quantities, but adjust one glass first before mixing the whole pitcher.

Common question

Should I shake the cola too?

No. Add it to the glass after shaking. This preserves carbonation and avoids pressure in the shaker.
