Distinguish syrup, purée and liqueur

Check the exact product type. Fruit syrup is different from fruit purée, and a liqueur is not automatically suitable for a non-alcoholic drink. Names such as curaçao or triple sec make the full bottle description especially important.

Fruit syrup adds flavour but does not replace fresh juice in every recipe. Juice often supplies more acidity and a different texture. Start with one bottle you can combine with two different juices rather than building a large collection immediately.

A starting ratio for syrup mocktails

Start with 10–15 ml syrup, 15 ml lemon or lime juice and 150 ml sparkling water. Mix syrup and juice, add ice and top up with water. Decide whether more syrup is needed only after tasting the finished dilution.

Raspberry lemon: 15 ml raspberry syrup, 15 ml lemon juice and 150 ml soda.

Passion fruit orange: 10 ml passion fruit syrup, 60 ml orange juice, 10 ml lime juice and 100 ml soda.

When using nectar instead of juice, start with less syrup. Dose carefully in creamy drinks too; coconut milk and dairy change the perception of sweetness.

Are all MONIN products alcohol-free?

Check the full product name and label individually. The brand name alone does not answer that question.

Can I measure with a tablespoon?

A small measuring cup is easier for repeatable results. Household spoons vary in size and some thick syrup remains attached to them.
