Sangria Mocktail: Grape, Orange and Fresh Fruit
A sangria mocktail combines grape juice, citrus and fresh fruit.
A sangria mocktail combines grape juice, citrus and fresh fruit. You do not need a large punch bowl for one glass. Soda reduces sweetness, while a little tea can add wine-like structure.
The quantities make one serving. Measure the ingredients before mixing and chill any mixer. Syrups, juices and bottled alternatives vary in sweetness and acidity, so taste the base before topping up.
Ingredients for one serving
- 80 ml red grape juice
- 30 ml orange juice
- 30 ml cold black tea
- 60 ml soda
- 2 orange slices
- 3 small apple pieces
- Ice
Method
- Wash and cut the fruit.
- Mix juices and tea with the fruit.
- Add ice when ready to serve.
- Add soda last and stir gently.
Getting the balance right
Grape juice is often very sweet. Tea and soda create space without adding another sweet juice. Cut fruit into manageable pieces without making them so small they interfere with drinking. Heavily crushed orange peel can become bitter.
Variation and substitutions
Use white grape juice and pear for a pale sangria. For a larger pitcher, multiply juice and tea but keep soda separate until serving.
Preparing several servings
Measure juice, purée and syrup shortly before serving. Add ice and carbonated ingredients when you make the drink. To serve a group, multiply the quantities, but adjust one glass first before mixing the whole pitcher.
Common question
Can I use non-alcoholic red wine?
Yes. Initially replace the grape juice and tea together with 110 ml and rebalance; acidity and sweetness vary by product.
