Fruit Juice Mocktails: Ratios and Flavour Pairings

Fruit juice mocktails become more balanced when you plan fruit, acidity and dilution separately. Combining several sweet juices does not automatically create more flavour.

Juice, nectar or juice drink?

The product description helps explain what you bought. Read ingredients and nutrition rather than relying on fruit imagery. Cranberry, mango and passion fruit products can vary substantially in sweetness.

Fruit base Useful contrast Suitable lengthener
Pineapple Lime Soda
Apple Lemon or ginger Soda or ginger ale
Cranberry Orange Soda
Mango Lime Water and soda

Nectar can be thicker than clear juice. Loosen it with water or citrus before topping up.

A starting ratio to try

Combine 80 ml fruit juice, 10–20 ml citrus juice and 100 ml soda over ice. This is a starting point, not a rule for every fruit. Grapefruit and cranberry often need less added acidity than mild mango.

When combining two juices, initially keep the total constant: for example, 50 ml pineapple and 30 ml orange rather than 80 ml each. That changes flavour without simultaneously changing the glass volume and dilution.

Common question

Do I need syrup? Not automatically. Taste the diluted mixture first. Syrup can balance acidity but does not make an already sweet juice more fruity.
