Italian Aperitif or Citrus Aperitif?

Italian Aperitif is a starting point for an orange-led drink. The producer describes Citrus Aperitif as a limoncello-inspired alternative. They serve different purposes in a recipe, so colour alone is not a useful selection method.

Start with one bottle for a specific drink. Owning a wide range helps little if every base is hidden under the same strongly flavoured mixer. Plain sparkling water reveals the base more clearly than a powerful soda.

Recipe: a flexible POLLY spritz

Combine 50 ml non-alcoholic aperitif, 100 ml non-alcoholic sparkling wine and 30 ml sparkling water in an ice-filled glass. Use orange with an orange-led base or lemon with the citrus alternative. Stir briefly and gently.

With a sweet sparkling wine, reduce its quantity and add more water. Without sparkling wine, start with 50 ml aperitif and 120 ml soda. Extra sweetener is not automatically necessary.

Does POLLY replace every spirit one for one?

No. Choose the relevant alternative and adjust sweetness, acidity and dilution. An aperitif base performs a different role from a gin alternative.

Compare the actual bottle rather than the brand name alone: product type, stated alcohol content, ingredients, bottle size and suggested serving amount all affect how it works in your recipe. The right choice depends on the drink you want to make. For your own comparison, mix each candidate with the same quantity of the same mixer and use equal amounts of ice.
