Non-Alcoholic Spritz: Ratios and Ingredient Guide
A non-alcoholic spritz combines an aromatic base with sparkling ingredients.
A non-alcoholic spritz combines an aromatic base with sparkling ingredients. The sweetness of the actual products matters more than one unchangeable numerical ratio.
A useful starting point
For a still aperitif base, start with 50 ml aperitif, 100 ml non-alcoholic sparkling wine and 30 ml soda. Fill a large glass with ice, add the base and pour in sparkling ingredients last. Stir gently once.
This ratio is unsuitable if using syrup instead of aperitif. Start closer to 10–20 ml syrup, add citrus if needed and increase neutral liquid. A finished sparkling spritz may not need lengthening at all.
Make three adjustments deliberately
Too sweet: reduce the sweeter ingredient and add soda. Extra lemon does not remove sugar.
Too thin: use less water or mixer in the next glass. More ice alone does not increase flavour concentration.
Too bitter: choose a more neutral mixer or replace a small portion of the bitter base with fruit juice. Avoid changing everything at once.
Orange suits bitter citrus, lemon suits lighter citrus bases and berries suit berry soda. Garnish should support the chosen profile rather than force another direction.
Common question
Can I skip sparkling wine? Yes. Use soda and rebalance the base. It becomes less wine-like while remaining a sparkling aperitif.
